Anting by birds is a form of anointing or smearing themselves with ants and has been studied since the early 19 th century. This behavior has been observed and studied. There is a passive form and an active form as well. The passive forms, being the birds letting ants attack the birds by provocation. This behavior has been suggested to be linked to be, for Grooming, ridding of
ectoparasites, sensory stimulation and to decrease skin irritation etc.Up to present many theories and Hypotheses has been presented. The anointing of exudes off snakes and incidentally killing it, has never been observed before to my knowledge. The attack on a young Common Rat Snake (Ptyas mucosa) by Yellow–billed Babblers (Turdoides affinis taprobanus) in Homagama, Sri Lanka, was the first ever record of this occurrence. This unedited video is a testament to what little we know of birds and long-term necessity to study bird behavior. this recorded by Natbound
